Melissa Tatton joined Ofcom last September as Interim Corporate Group Director and as a member of the Senior Management Team, reporting to Ofcom’s Chief Executive, Dame Melanie Dawes. Ofcom today confirms that Melissa has been appointed as Chief Operating Officer on a permanent basis.
The work of Corporate Group is focused on delivering our Plan of Work and providing support to Ofcom’s key policy functions. Melissa will also help Ofcom to grow and develop in response to our new duties in relation to Online Harms and Telecoms Security.
She will continue to chair the Operations Board, co-chair the Online Harms Programme Board and act as SMT Sponsor for Gender.
Before joining Ofcom, Melissa spent 30 years at HMRC where she held a number of senior leadership posts. Most recently, she led the Department’s Covid-19 response and implemented a major job retention scheme. She also acted as Chief Executive Officer for the Valuation Agency, which managed up to £60bn assets on behalf of the UK government. Melissa was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in June 2016.
