Ofcom has today announced the reappointment of Rhoda Macdonald to the board of MG ALBA, the body responsible for ensuring the availability of high-quality television programmes in Gaelic.Rhoda Macdonald

Ofcom’s recommendation for the reappointment has been agreed by Jenny Gilruth MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills at the Scottish Government. Rhoda will serve on the Board for a term of four years commencing from 1 January 2024.

Rhoda was born and raised on the Isle of Lewis and is a native Gaelic speaker. After gaining her degree from The University of Glasgow, she embarked upon a career in broadcasting, both on screen and in production, eventually becoming Head of Gaelic at STV. In 2003, she was appointed Special Adviser to the then Secretary of State for Scotland and is now Senior Counsel at H/Advisors Cicero.

I am delighted to continue into a second term on the MG ALBA board, providing oversight to our delivery of high-quality Gaelic programmes and media to native and new speakers alike. I'm particularly interested in continuing to distribute MG ALBA services on digital platforms and further supporting the Gaelic production sector.
