BSkyB has applied to Ofcom for consent to broadcast exclusive live coverage of Cricket Test Matches played in England in 2010-2013.
These are Group B Listed Events which means that the rights to broadcast highlights must have been offered to broadcasters providing qualifying services in the other category from BSkyB, as specified in Section 98 of the Broadcasting Act 1996. The rules which apply are set out in the Code on Sports and Other Listed and Designated Events.
In the case of the cricket test matches Ofcom has been informed that the highlights rights have been acquired by Five, which is a broadcaster in the other category from BSkyB. Five is a qualifying service for the purposes of Section 98 of the Broadcasting Act 1996.
