In October 2023, Ofcom's powers as online safety regulator officially commenced. As part of developing safety measures to help protect children online, we have been consulting children for their feedback on our proposals.
When developing safety measures for children online, Ofcom engages with thousands of children’s voices and experiences through its research. But we have also been consulting children directly on our policy proposals for protecting them online.
As part of our illegal harms consultation, we conducted research and engagement workshops with 77 children in four different schools, to find out their views on our proposals to make children safer from online grooming. The report from this project was published in December 2024.
As part of our protection of children consultation, over 100 children across the UK have taken part in deliberative workshops, home-based activities and interviews, to share their views on a range of proposals to protect children from harm online. We intend to publish the report from this project at the same time as our protection of children statement, scheduled for April 2025. More details about our approach to this children’s consultation can be found here.
