Ofcom has appointed Fadzai Madzingira as Online Safety Supervision Director, as we further strengthen our expertise in this area ahead of taking on our new powers as the online safety regulator.
Fadzai brings a wealth of experience in online trust and safety, and joins us from her most recent role at Salesforce, where she, as a Director in the Office of Ethical and Humane Use of Technology, was responsible for managing the company's compliance of the EU Digital Services Act.
Working across Europe, Middle East and Africa she oversaw the company’s trust and safety initiatives, making sure its technologies were not being used to facilitate harm.
Prior to this, Fadzai was the Global Hate Speech Content Policy Lead at Meta, where she led the policy development strategy and product initiatives for hate speech policy enforcement across the company’s suite of products.
A Rhodes Scholar, Fadzai has a Master of Public Policy and a Master of Laws from Oxford University.
Alongside Fadzai’s appointment, Ofcom’s Anna Lucas will be promoted as another Online Safety Supervision Director, joining existing Director, Richard Wronka. In her new role, Anna will focus on how Ofcom engages with smaller services.
Fadzai, Anna and Richard will work closely with tech platforms to make sure they follow new Government online safety rules. They will engage with industry, government and civil society groups, to make sure Ofcom's regulations are effective and protect people from harm online.
A safer internet for everyone will require the partnership of all stakeholders in the tech ecosystem. I am thrilled to support the talented team at Ofcom as we work towards this shared goal with our partners.
