Spectrum Pricing: A framework for setting cost based fees

Ofcom today published a consultation proposing a new framework for setting cost based fees for spectrum licences issued under the Wireless Telegraphy Act 2006. This document builds on Ofcom’s Strategic Review of Spectrum Pricing (SRSP) published in 2010 and the principle that where cost based fees apply, they should reflect the costs Ofcom incurs in managing access to spectrum.

Operators may establish, install and use radio equipment anywhere in the UK, in accordance with their Wireless Telegraphy Act licences, issued by Ofcom. Obtaining planning permission for the physical structures that host the radio equipment is handled by the relevant local planning authorities. Depending on location and size, not all base stations will necessarily require planning permission
