A Memorandum of Understanding between Ofcom and the UK Government was signed on 15 October 2007 to cover working arrangements for the British Overseas Territories (OTs) and Crown Dependencies (CDs) in relation to their representation at the ITU. Under this MoU, Ofcom represents the OTs and CDs at the ITU and liaises with appropriate authorities in the OTs and CDs.
The UK membership of the ITU therefore covers Great Britain and Northern Ireland, as well as the British Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies. The interests of these British territories in the ITU include frequency coordination (terrestrial and satellite networks), call signs and licensing for ship stations and telephone numbering.
